Calgary is known for having the most extensive bike path network in North America. There are currently nearly 1000 km of shared pathways (for leisure riding, jogging, walking, etc) along rivers and parks with an additional 138 km presently being added. Below is a map of Calgary’s on street bike path that spans 290 km throughout the city. Excluding areas near parks and rivers which are supplemented by dedicated paths, it is evident that the network is disconnected which may represent unsafe conditions for bike riders in terms of cars, pedestrians, lighting, snow, and therefore a contributing factor for many to not want to cycle.
