The YYC development will create a vibrant and diverse urban condition within the Calgary’s suburban landscape, and Sturgess Architecture was hired to design the flagship building in this community. A Master Plan has been developed for the greater site which supports a sustainable urban vision by providing increased density, mixed-use development, new parks and outdoor markets in a pedestrian and transit-oriented environment. The YYC building will be the first to be constructed on this site and is responsive to its context by creating a building that encompasses the same programmatic requirements as the Master Plan.

The individual unit types are fundamentally driven by the target market, providing three different types of unit modules conceived as a series of interchangeable blocks that can be ‘plugged in’ anywhere within the structural framework of the building. The final number of units will depend on the current market for each type at the time of construction and will range from 60 to 120 units.
